What does that mean?

The majority of Dalmatians are HUA (high uric acid). This is an unfortunate genetic flaw that most dals have. Some live symptom free and can manage by strict low purine diets but others, regardless of diet may suffer from urinary tract infections, stones, obstructions, infections & even death. Fortunately LUA (low uric acid) Dalmatians were introduced in 1973 and later recognized by the AKC in 2011. Now by careful selection & hard work, the population of LUA’s is expanding and has been found to be an enormous health benefit to our dear friends. In order to continue to expand this population, it is important to breed HUA Dalmatians to LUA‘s in order to continue to outcross and expand the genetics.

Dalmatians were known to follow alongside a horse & carriage to protect, among many other important jobs. Since they are built to be energetic, athletic and able to maintain great stamina, this was a great job for them! Dalmatians love their people and to please. Some may be weary of new faces, but most do fine with slow introduction (All of my dals love all that come around).
